Team Picnic (Posted 8/8/08)
State Meet Results are In! (Posted 8/2/08)
Highlights of the meet include
Jacob Romero and Kara Leasure
earning state championship titles in their distance events. Jacob swam a 21:11.87 to claim first in the 13-14 Boys 1500 M free;
his 800 Free time of 11:08.33 earned him first in that event as well. Kara won the 15 & Over Girls 800 M free
with a time of 10:13.70, and set a PAC team record in the ladies 15 & Over 50 breast.
Dylan Lake and Anna Wermer
also set some new PAC team records. Dylan lowered the mark he set last month at the Nick
Nogar in the boys 15 & Over 100 & 200 breast. In the 11-12 Girls age group, Anna dropped 10 seconds off
her 200 fly record from the Nick Nogar, and she
just
slipped under the mark set by Alisa Romero in the 200 back in 2005.
In one of the most exciting races of the meet,
Anna Wermer and Justine Yang
pushed each other to the limit throughout the 400 IM. Both pulled AA times, with Anna
outtouching Justine by a fingernail in the end. Anna's time of 6:10.08 earned her 2nd place in the event in 11-12 Girls age group,
while Justine captured 3rd with a time of 6:10.29.

on the PAC meet info/results web page.

Breaking News! (Posted 1/19/08)
PAC team records continued to fall as Anna Wermer churned the water
for a second straight day.

previous PAC 10 & Under Girls record of 30.43 set by Lauren TenCate last February.
Her 1:15.35 in the 100 fly was also a AAA time, and one that was almost 5 seconds faster than
that set by the legendary Caity Ferguson back in 2001. Anna also swam past
the 500 free record of 6:36.20 set by Caity in 2000, completing the race in 6:22.32.
Competition wraps up on Sunday. Warmups are at 8:30 for morning swimmers, 1 PM for

day at the races.

Those team records just keep tumbling down... last weekend it
was Dylan Lake
setting 3 new records at the Duke meet,
then this weekend's FCAT meet saw 4 new team records by
4 PAC swimmers. In the 8 & Under Girls 100 Free, Annika Davenport
took 1.21 seconds
off the previous record set by Neda Nguyen in 1999. In the 10 & Under Girls,
Maria Venneri
flew (no pun intended) past Natalia Moore's 2005 record time in the 50 Fly, touching the wall
in 38.46 seconds.
In the 11-12 Girls, Justine Yang trimmed 9 seconds off
the 200 Fly record set by YuLiya Matlashova in 2003, and Lauren TenCate
lowered
Lydia Wermer's 800 Free record set in 2003 by 27 seconds. Maria
and Lauren finished first in the individual high point competitions, each winning
a unique Navajo pottery trophy, and Justine was a close third. In the team competition, PAC came in 5th
out of 10, a very respectable showing considering we only had 5 people in the water.

in the 200 Free, 500 Free, 100 IM and 200 IM. Maria Venneri's

her previous PAC team record by a quarter of a second. In the 17-18 Girls division, Lydia Wermer
had personal best times in the
100 back and 200 back; she won an 8th place medal in the latter event.
Kara Leasure
placed 5th in the 1650 Free and 6th in the 400 IM. Congratulations to Coach Phil and his swimmers!
There was some great swimming at the 8 & Under State Finals today-- congratulations to
Coach Phil and Coach Lydia and swimmers Cory Liechty, Dara Armstrong, Michelle Yang,
Annika Davenport, Niamh Short, Jesse Liechty and Brice Shao on a fine performance!
Highlights of the day included Jesse swimming to the
8 yr old girls 100 IM state championship title, out-touching the
nearest competition by just over a quarter of a second in a close and
exciting race; Michelle Yang taking first in the 7 yr old girls 25 breast;
the 100 Medley Relay team, consisting of Niamh Short, Michelle Yang,
Jesse Liechty and Annika Davenport, placing 3rd in a race fraught with DQ's; and
Dara Armstrong and Cory Liechty winning 6th and 7th place ribbons in the 6 & Under girls 25-yd backstroke, an
event that is tough to swim well under the crooked ceiling of the Chavez Center. Stay tuned
for complete meet results. Go PAC go!
PAC results and

PAC high point scorers for the weekend were Jesse Liechty (1st, 8 & Under Girls), Michelle Yang (3rd,
8 & Under Girls), Anna Wermer (1st, 9-10 Girls), Maria Venneri (3rd, 9-10 Girls) and

The 200 free relay and 200 medley relay in the 10 & Under girls (Maria, Michelle, Anna & Jesse)

(Special congratulations to Lauren on hitting the pad properly on this one!)
In the individual competition everyone posted one or more personal best times. New

(1) Practice is cancelled for all groups on Friday 2/1/08 due to the Farmington meet. Go PAC go!
In the individual high point competition, Jesse Liechty & Michelle Yang took 2nd & 3rd place
in 8 & Under girls age group;
Anna Wermer and Maria Venneri came in 2nd and 3rd in the 10 & Under girls division;
Matthew Davenport won 1st place in the 11-12 boys; and Lauren TenCate and Justine Yang were 1st and 2nd
among the 11-12 girls.
High point trophies weren't awarded to 13 & Overs, but Lydia Wermer (15 & Over girls)
and Jacob Romero (13-14 boys) were among the top scorers. Along with many meet veterans,
new-comers Brandon Bao, Brice Shao
and Niamhy Short also finished in the top 8 in several events. Anna Wermer
made 2 Zone cuts (10 & Under girls 200 free & 50 fly) and set 8 new PAC team
records, a feat which is probably a record in itself.
Regardless of place attained, PAC had many excellent swims and many best times;
clearly all that hard work pays off. We're proud of
each and every one of our swimmers-- way to go!
