State Meet Results are In! (Posted 8/2/08)

The 2008 Long Course State Meet wrapped up last weekend with PAC placing a very respectable 8th out of 18 teams, even without any relays. Congratulations to Coach Phil and the 11 participating PAC swimmers!

Highlights of the meet include Jacob Romero and Kara Leasure earning state championship titles in their distance events. Jacob swam a 21:11.87 to claim first in the 13-14 Boys 1500 M free; his 800 Free time of 11:08.33 earned him first in that event as well. Kara won the 15 & Over Girls 800 M free with a time of 10:13.70, and set a PAC team record in the ladies 15 & Over 50 breast. Dylan Lake and Anna Wermer also set some new PAC team records. Dylan lowered the mark he set last month at the Nick Nogar in the boys 15 & Over 100 & 200 breast. In the 11-12 Girls age group, Anna dropped 10 seconds off her 200 fly record from the Nick Nogar, and she just slipped under the mark set by Alisa Romero in the 200 back in 2005.

In one of the most exciting races of the meet, Anna Wermer and Justine Yang pushed each other to the limit throughout the 400 IM. Both pulled AA times, with Anna outtouching Justine by a fingernail in the end. Anna's time of 6:10.08 earned her 2nd place in the event in 11-12 Girls age group, while Justine captured 3rd with a time of 6:10.29.

Check out the complete meet results on the PAC meet info/results web page. Results from the 8 & Under Finals are now posted as well.

In the individual events, Michelle Yang won the 8-yr-old girls 50 breast, touching the wall 5 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Annika Davenport picked up 2nd place medals in the 8-yr-old girls 50 and 100 freestyle, and Cory and Esther won ribbons in the 7 & Under girls 50 free, among other things. The Nick Nogar meet wrapped up this afternoon with PAC swimmers claiming multiple high point awards, including first place finishes by Annika Davenport (8 & Under Girls) , Lauren TenCate (11-12 Girls) and Lydia Wermer (17-18 Girls).

Michelle Yang, who won the 8 & Under Girls 2nd place high point award, eclipsed Neda Nguyen's 1999 PAC team records in the 8 & Under Girls 50 and 100 Breast, and also set new team records in the 8 & Under Girls 200 Breast and 200 Back. Michelle's BB time of 1:59.82 in the 100 Breast also qualifies her for her first NM State Meet in the 10 & Under Girls event-- congratulations Michelle!!!

Pajarito Aquatic Club extends congratulations to Giuliano Masci of Go-Swim_Gallup on setting a new state record in the 11-12 boys 200M Fly at the Lobo LC Invitational this past weekend. Giuliano swam the race in an impressive quad-A time of 2:36.73, overtaking the lead swimmer in the last few meters and lowering the record he set at FCAT the previous weekend by 4 more seconds. Way to go Giuliano and GSG Coach Pinero! Check out all the NM and national age group swimming records and best times in the PAC Trophy Room.

At the same meet, Maria Venneri celebrated the end of her 10 & Under career by setting a new PAC team record in the 100M backstroke. She may have lowered her own 50M Fly record too, we'll know for sure when the official meet results are made available. Stay tuned:)

Avalanche! (Posted 6/2/08)

Those team records just keep tumbling down... last weekend it was Dylan Lake setting 3 new records at the Duke meet, then this weekend's FCAT meet saw 4 new team records by 4 PAC swimmers. In the 8 & Under Girls 100 Free, Annika Davenport took 1.21 seconds off the previous record set by Neda Nguyen in 1999. In the 10 & Under Girls, Maria Venneri flew (no pun intended) past Natalia Moore's 2005 record time in the 50 Fly, touching the wall in 38.46 seconds. In the 11-12 Girls, Justine Yang trimmed 9 seconds off the 200 Fly record set by YuLiya Matlashova in 2003, and Lauren TenCate lowered Lydia Wermer's 800 Free record set in 2003 by 27 seconds. Maria and Lauren finished first in the individual high point competitions, each winning a unique Navajo pottery trophy, and Justine was a close third. In the team competition, PAC came in 5th out of 10, a very respectable showing considering we only had 5 people in the water. For complete results, check out the PAC Meet Info & Results page. Congratulations to Coach Phil and everyone who participated--go PAC go!

Regardless of place attained, PAC had many excellent swims and many best times; clearly all that hard work pays off. We're proud of each and every one of our swimmers-- way to go!
