State Meet Results (Posted 7/27/09)

Despite the sweltering heat (many thanks to Loui Janecky of the Los Alamos School of Gymnastics for graciously lending us a fabulous shade canopy), PAC swimmers had a good showing at the 2009 Long Course State Meet held in Las Cruces last weekend. Overall the team came in 8th place (out of 19 teams) with 183.5 points; 7 individual team records were broken and 4 new team relay records were established.

Justine Yang led the penguin charge with 42 points, taking 3rd place high point in the 11-12 Girls. Justine's AA time of 2:49.36 in the 200 M back was more than 7 seconds faster than the record set by Maria Venneri at FCAT last month, and her 200 M free time of 2:26.42 was over a second faster than the mark set in 1998 by the legendary Mari Padilla. Anna Wermer also claimed PAC team records in the 11-12 Girls 200 Fly, where she lowered her record from last year by 14 seconds; the 200 IM, previously held by Mari Padilla; and the 400 IM, formerly held by Natalia Moore. Rounding out the new team individual records, Lauren TenCate lowered Nena Salazar's and Mari Padilla's long-standing times in the 11-12 Girls 50 M Free and 100 M Free. The 11-12 Girls Relay Squad, consisting of Justine, Anna, Lauren and Maria Venneri, also entered the team records book.

Other accomplishments included many best times, as well as Michael Moore achieving his first "A" time (in the 11-12 boys 50 M free) and Judy Lee participating in her first individual event at a state meet.

Stay tuned for more pictures, and be sure to check out the complete meet results for all the exciting details. Go PAC go!

FCAT Results (Posted 7/6/09)

Congratulations to Coach Phil and the 11 swimmers participating in the FCAT Summer LC Invite last weekend! PAC came in 3rd overall, with the girls taking 2nd in the women's competition and the boys (all 3 of them) taking 4th in the men's competition.

There were many excellent swims, including PAC Team record-breaking performances by Justine Yang, who bettered her own mark set two weeks earlier at the Nick Nogar by dropping 51 seconds off her time in the 11-12 Girls 1500 free; Maria Venneri, who trimmed 0.3 seconds off the 11-12 Girls 200 back time posted by Anna Wermer at last year's LC State meet; and Lauren TenCate, who took three-quarters of a second off the 11-12 Girls 100 backstroke record set over 11 years ago by the legendary Mari Padilla.

PAC swimmers also claimed multiple high-point honors this time around. In a very close race, Justine Yang ultimately edged out Lauren TenCate for 1st-place high point in the 11-12 Girls competition. For her efforts, Justine won one of the very fashionable and highly coveted embroidered towels. Lauren TenCate and Michael Moore both came in second in their respective divisions. Rounding out Top 3 honors, Cory Liechty came in 3rd place overall in the 8 & Under Girls competition, Jessica Moore came in 3rd in the 9-10 Girls division, and one of PAC's newest swimmers, Trey Pereyra, captured 3rd in the 13-14 Boys competition. Check out the complete meet results for all the exciting details. Go PAC go!
